Recently I’ve read an article which stated that people are positive about their lives until the age of roughly twenty-nine, their only fear being unemployment. From the age of fifty it is claimed that people have generally accepted their fate and their problems as unchangeable.
In how far these statistics are true is questionable, they however did spark off quite a number of thoughts on the topic of positive thinking and giving up.
Expressions like “eventually accepting one’s fate” make it seem like there are forces at work from which we can’t escape. It is almost like stating that in the end, we are bound to submit ourselves to the never-ending daily grind. We may keep a hobby or two if we don’t want to go completely insane while we are working in a job we don’t really like. Then we live our lives waiting for weekends, holidays and eventually retirement.
Is this it?
The secret is: don’t give up on your dreams. Nourish them instead! As simple and plain as this may sound. There is no such thing as too late. When we wait for things to happen by themselves, we are in for a disappointment in most cases. Random input = random result.
The moment you dream them, start making a plan in order to make those dreams them real. You have the power! Build and create your dreams. Find strategies to motivate yourself in order to keep going. Find time for these things in your life, whatever they may be. Time is probably the only thing in this life which all of us have an equal share each day – as long as we live. How we fill that time is up to us. It always begins now. Every second presents us with a universe of opportunities. If you want it, you can achieve it!
